We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our team of skilled engineers in delivering exceptional custom machine design and build projects.
As the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in leading and managing the mechanical engineering department. You will be responsible for overseeing the design and development of custom machines, ensuring they meet project specifications, timelines, and quality standards. This position involves strategic planning, project management, technical leadership, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. This is a working position where you may also take on a small number of your own projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of mechanical engineers, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence in custom machine design.
Establish clear objectives, performance metrics, and professional development opportunities for team members, conducting regular performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback.
Develop and implement training programs to enhance the technical capabilities and knowledge of the engineering team.
Oversee and manage the end-to-end execution of custom machine design and build projects, ensuring alignment with client specifications, project timelines, and budget constraints.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., electrical engineering, software development, fabrication) to achieve project goals and deliver comprehensive and integrated solutions.
Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure successful project completion.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to the engineering team, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and optimal engineering practices.
Collaborate with engineers to resolve complex technical challenges and optimize mechanical designs for efficiency, reliability, and performance.
Contribute to the development of the mechanical engineering department’s strategic vision, goals, and objectives, aligning with the company’s mission and growth objectives.
Identify opportunities for process improvements, innovation, and the adoption of emerging technologies to enhance custom machine designs and streamline manufacturing processes.
Effectively communicate with clients and internal stakeholders to understand project requirements, present design proposals, and ensure alignment with expectations.
Collaborate closely with sales and project management teams to deliver proposals and technical insights that meet or exceed client needs.
Perform engineering design and project work as required to help meet the requirements and deadlines of the department.
Desired Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience (10+ years) in mechanical engineering, specializing in custom machine design and build.
- Deep knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and safety standards relevant to custom machinery.
- Strong project management skills and proficiency in Microsoft software.
- Proven competence in 3D/2D CAD required (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
